STOP VIOLENCE, START HEALING: Join CoMo march Sept. 12

We Are Family

COLUMBIA, Mo 9/11/15 (Press Release)
--
Riots protesting police violence raged across the country, especially in nearby Ferguson.

Shootings are in the news almost daily and escalating in Columbia.

Glenn Cobbins, Destiny of H.O.P.E.  peace and justice advocate, wanted to work for change and had the idea of a march to empower his community – a march to stop black on black violence.

Almost 200 concerned citizens, community leaders and representatives from local organizations turned out for the first WE ARE FAMILY March and momentum has been building for the second march which will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2-4 p.m

The We Are Family march will begin at Hickman High School parking lot and proceed along Providence Road past Douglass High School to Walnut Street ending at the Boone County Courthouse Plaza.

A short program will follow at Boone County Courthouse Plaza.  Speakers will include First Ward City Councilman Clyde Ruffin;   community advocate, Darryl Williams; former director of the Imani Mission Center, Judy Hubbard; First Ward City Council candidate and youth advocate, Rob Stewart; neighborhood activist, Pat Kelley.

“We need to do something about the violence here in our community.” Cobbins said.   "Our April walk started the conversation.  Let’s continue to unify our efforts to minimize black on black crime in Mid-Missouri.   We want the WE ARE FAMILY March to be a prototype across the state and nation to address black on black crime and promote positive alternatives of peace.”

Everyone is invited to help us make a difference in Columbia by marching against black on black violence.
